Compound growth is one of the most powerful concepts you could understand to help you make better decisions when making investment decision.

Compounding involves earning returns on both your original investment and on returns you received previously. This means you need to reinvest your returns back into your account.

For example, you invest $10,000 in a stock and earn a 5% in dividends. In the first year, you would make $500. If you put it back into your investments instead of cashing it out, That will bring your total investment to $10,500.

Next year, if dividends remain at 5%, you will earn an extra $525, bringing your total investments to $11,025.

Over the long term, compound growth can multiply your initial investment exponentially. In our hypothetical example, if your return stayed at 5%, by year 20, your total investment will north of $25,000.

That’s more than a hundred percent return — just for sitting by and letting your money grow.

The secret is patience. Don’t be tempted to withdraw the funds when they grow.

There are two things you just need to keep in mind before you go on looking for stocks that pay dividents.

First is taxes. Keep in mind that if you hold your investments in a taxable account, you’ll still be taxed on the interest, dividends, and capital gains you receive, even if you reinvest them into the account when you cash it out.

Many people don’t feel good about having to pay taxes for the gains. There is a way around it.

Open a ROTH self-directed Individual retirement account or ROTH SDIRA. You will pay taxes on your investment but not on your capital gains.

You can put many kinds of assets in you SDIRA including stocks, real estate and precious metals.

Second, like any other asset, an asset could tank. Even the most established brands could fall. If that happens, your stocks go down with it.

Third, and probably the most important, consider inflation. Our current inflation is at its all time high at 6% but experts are saying real inflation rate is north of 13%.

That means for you to maintain the value of your investment, listen closely, this is just to maintain the value of your investment, never mind growing wealth, you need to earn more than inflation. If real inflation is at 13%, then your gains need to be at 13% for the month.

I can tell you this much. It will be very very hard to find stocks that give more than 5% dividend per annum.
