Toyota is now focusing on advancing the computer systems of its cars. That’s good news for gold investors. God is a major component in the processing systems of electronics and other machines.
Earlier this year, the Toyota unit paid $550 million for the self-driving technology of ride-hailing service Lyft. It also invested in Ridecell which provides automation for fleet businesses.
Through its subsidiary, Woven Planet, Toyota also invested in Renovo. Renovo is a startup specializing in sophisticated road mapping updates by tapping into crowd-sourced information obtained from millions of Toyota vehicles.
Nikos Michalakis, Woven Planet’s senior vice president of software platform, said and I quote, “The acquisition of Renovo supports Woven Planet’s work in transforming worldwide mobility. A key part is to enable the most programmable vehicles on the planet, opening vehicle programming to everyone by simplifying software development.”
The reason Woven Planet wanted Renovo was its operating system that can run various apps that integrate automated driver assist systems, maps and other mobility services. The system, Aware OS, has been compared to Google’s Android system that enables software developers to introduce new smartphone apps.
This development confirms that industries are headed towards powerful computer systems, powerful data centers, and powerful processing units. Gold will make that possible.
Gold doesn’t corrode which makes it the ideal and, so far, only precious metal that can do the job.
As Toyota focuses on making their cars’ computer software more powerful, others will follow and that will signal higher demand for gold.
The best news is that there isn’t much gold. Around 54,000 tons of viable gold remains underground, and we are currently mining around 2,500 to 3,000 tons a year, so clearly the supply is limited.
Gold is now included on an endangered list, as are silver and copper. Unless we address the need to recycle and recover these metals, they could end up completely depleted.
