General Motors is back. After declaring chapter 11 more than a decade ago, it is back with a new brand, and it’s all about electric vehicles.
Brightdrop is a whole new business unit focused on building, selling and supporting electric commercial vehicles. It just completed the first of a batch production of 500 units EV Cars.
And do you know who ordered it? Fedex.
EV600, the model name of the new EV, is specifically designed to meet the needs of package delivery companies like Fedex. It features low entry and loading openings to make life easier for the drivers that have to get in and out of the van sometimes hundreds of times per day.
And even as they just completed delivery of the first model, they are already planning the succeeding ones they will release called the EV410. This one is also an electric vehicle.
Both models, EV600 and EV410 will initially have batteries claimed to provide about 250 miles of range,
Brightdrop says package companies typically go 100-150 miles per day. Those drivers are also getting in and out frequently in cold winters and hot summers with the heat or air conditioning going and need more buffer in the battery to ensure they can actually get the real world they need without a charge.
Why is this relevant to us as investors?
We need to realize that electrification is where we are headed. The vehicle industry is leading the way by moving towards Electric Vehicles rather than fossil-fueled cars. This means dependence will shift from oil to precious metals.
Silver is the new oil. That’s what you should look into investing in.
With all of the incumbent van makers introducing electric variants in the next couple of years, you can expect a surge in precious metals required to make these vans. Gold, silver, palladium and platinum are on top of the list.
