February has been rough for the gold price so far. After rising briefly above US$1,950 per ounce last week, the yellow metal has come crashing down. It was at about US$1,878 at the time this video was recorded, but fell as low as US$1,865 earlier in the week.
M&A activity was also in focus in the gold space this week as major miner Newmont approached Newcrest Mining with a non-binding proposal to acquire the company. If the all-stock offer goes through, it would be the biggest gold takeover ever.
